Why My Clients Choose Me

Buying property in France should feel secure — and be a pleasure.

For many of my international clients, buying property in France is about much more than making a sound investment. It may be a family holiday home, a new place to call home, a legacy for future generations, a retirement in the sun — or simply the desire to enjoy the French way of life.

However, as soon as you move forward with the project and identify a property, the questions start.

  • $
Should I buy in my own name or through an SCI?
  • $
How can you prepare your children for the transition?
  • $
What will be the tax implications in France and in my home country?
  • $
How can I be sure of what I'm committing to, what I'm giving up, and how can I know if I'm protected for the future?

That's exactly when I step in.

THE TRYGGHET METHOD

Five stages. One priority: your confidence

1 · Understanding

Your situation. Your family. Your goals.

2 · Develop a Strategy

Structure, taxation, and wealth management planned from the very beginning.

3 · Make informed decisions with confidence

You move forward by understanding the implications of each step.

4 · Coordinate all the professionals involved

Notary, bank, agent, tax specialist, property manager, experts, even internationally.

5 · By your side every step of the way

From your first plans to the resale, when the time comes.

What We Avoid by Planning Ahead

CUSTOMER CASE STUDY

A real-life case from our practice, anonymized

A Swedish couple purchased a house in France for €800,000 without seeking personal legal advice beforehand.

It is only after the acquisition that the consequences of decisions that had not been fully considered become apparent: inappropriate ownership structure, unforeseen tax implications, lack of preparation for succession, and constraints at the time of resale.

In this case, the cumulative financial exposure associated with these various decisions was estimated at €228,000, or more than 28% of the purchase price.

Not everything can always be avoided. But some decisions are much easier to make before signing than to correct afterward.

PLANNING AHEAD ALLOWS YOU TO MAKE CHOICES RATHER THAN BE AT THE MERCY OF CIRCUMSTANCES.

Why have a lawyer alongside your notary?

This is a question that almost all of my international clients ask.
In reality, the two are not the same thing, and they complement each other.

THE NOTARY

GUARANTOR OF THE DOCUMENTS

As a public officer, the notary ensures that certain legal arrangements and estate matters comply with French legal formalities and carries out mandatory procedures, such as registrations.

THE LAWYER - ME

YOUR PERSONAL ADVISOR, YOUR PROJECT MANAGER

A lawyer is your personal advisor: he or she exclusively defends your interests, analyzes your situation, reviews the commitments you make, identifies risks, and helps you negotiate when necessary.

In an international project, this combination of legal, estate planning, tax, and linguistic expertise instills confidence and provides a high level of additional security—not by pitting the two professions against each other, but by having them work together in your best interest.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - FAQ

QUESTIONS MY CLIENTS OFTEN ASK

Can I buy a property in France while living abroad?

Yes, absolutely. Most of my clients are based outside France, and I work with them remotely, whether they are in Sweden or elsewhere. I guide them through every stage of their project, from the initial planning through to signing — and beyond.

Is an SCI the right structure for me?

It depends on your goals and circumstances: joint ownership, passing assets on to your children, tax considerations, or plans to start a business, among other factors. During our consultation, we’ll work together to determine the structure that best suits your situation.

How will rental income be taxed?

Income from property located in France is taxable there, subject to specific rules and coordination with foreign tax systems, whether Swedish or otherwise. We anticipate these implications from the outset.

Can I work with you entirely remotely?

Yes. Our firm is fully digital: video calls, phone calls, electronic signatures, and the same level of service no matter where you are. You don't need to come in.

Do you work with my notary?

Yes. I'll coordinate the case with your notary, wherever they're located, or with my French-international partner notary if you don't have one yet.

Can we communicate in English?

Yes, of course. I am both a Swedish and a French attorney. We can communicate in Swedish, English, or French—whichever you prefer—both verbally and in writing.

Will you also assist me after the final deed is signed?

Yes. Property management, leasing, annual tax matters, property transfer, and concierge services are all part of the support we provide. My role doesn't end with the signing of the contract.

How do you take my long-term wealth planning into account?

The transfer of French property from abroad is subject to specific rules. We plan for these while you are still alive to protect your family and avoid any surprises.

LET’S MOVE FORWARD TOGETHER

Buying a property in France is a major decision.
It deserves support that goes beyond simply signing a deed.

My role is to provide you with a comprehensive overview, advocate for your interests, and coordinate the various stakeholders involved in your project—so that you can move forward with confidence, in your own language, at every stage.
